Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare perinatal outcomes like maternal Body Mass Index (BMI), macrosomia, and cesarean section rates for first-time mothers with singleton infants, focusing on the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic in Melbourne.
  • It involved a multi-centre analysis of data from nearly 51,000 births between January 2019 and March 2022, looking into changes in these health metrics during the pandemic.
  • While the findings showed some increases in BMI and cesarean sections during the pandemic, the study concluded that these trends were not significantly exacerbated by the pandemic conditions, particularly for those who experienced no labor or inductions.

  • The study looked at issues in the mouth and throat caused by drugs and vaccines in Italy from 2019 to 2021.
  • Out of over 67,000 cases, about 2,773 had throat problems, mostly in adult females, and most were not serious.
  • The findings showed that many problems related to drugs were reported more often than those from vaccines, and there is a need for better reporting and training for health care workers.

Vitamin D (VitD) is largely used in Italy, often inappropriately; thus, an evaluation of its safety is a crucial issue. This study analyses the adverse reactions (ARs) associated with the use of products containing VitD (VitDps) reported to the Italian National Pharmacovigilance and Phytovigilance networks. From March 2002 to August 2022, a total of 643 and 127 reports concerning 903 and 215 ARs were retrieved from Pharmacovigilance and Phytovigilance networks, respectively.
