Group B Streptococcus (; GBS) infection is a significant contributor to neonatal morbidity and mortality. In the early 1970s, the neonatal mortality rate for infants with invasive GBS disease was 55%. With the adoption of the first medical community guidelines to prevent GBS infection in the 1990s, the mortality rate decreased to approximately 5%.

Survey of PDA management in very low birth weight infants across Italy.

Background: The optimal management of PDA in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants is still controversial. Aim of our study was to investigate the management of PDA in the Italian neonatal intensive care units (NICU).

Resistance to the action of growth hormone (GH) frequently complicates liver cirrhosis, while, physiologically, the activation of GH receptor (GHR) determines phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT)-5 and the consequent induction of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) expression. The suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS)-3 negatively regulates this intracellular cascade. We aimed to evaluate the hepatic expression of the GH/IGF-1 axis components in the liver of patients with HCV-related chronic hepatitis at different fibrosis stages.
