Cerebellar stem cells act as medulloblastoma-initiating cells in a mouse model and a neural stem cell signature characterizes a subset of human medulloblastomas.

Cells with stem cell properties have been isolated from various areas of the postnatal mammalian brain, most recently from the postnatal mouse cerebellum. We show here that inactivation of the tumor suppressor genes Rb and p53 in these endogenous neural stem cells induced deregulated proliferation and resistance to apoptosis in vitro. Moreover, injection of these cells into mice formed medulloblastomas.

Antifungal activity of sodium acetate and Lactobacillus rhamnosus.

The inhibition of molds by sodium acetate in deMan Rogosa Sharpe (MRS) medium, along with the antifungal activity of Lactobacillus rhamnosus VT1, was studied by the slope agar plate method. MRS agar prepared with and without sodium acetate was used as the agar substrate. A total of 42 strains of Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Alternaria, Cladosporium, and Rhizopus were used to compare sensitivities to the inhibitory activity of sodium acetate and L.

Endodermal sinus tumor of vulva (a case report).

An unusual case of endodermal sinus tumor (EST) of the ovary at an extragonadal site-vulva, in an unmarried female of 25 yr is reported. The patient presented only with a vulval swelling on the right side without any other signs or symptoms. The internal genital organs mainly the ovaries were normal.
