Coexistence of Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome and JAK2-positive essential thrombocythemia.

Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is an autosomal recessive disorder consisting of oculocutaneous albinism, platelet storage pool deficiency, and lysosomal accumulation of ceroid lipofuscin. The storage pool deficiency of HPS is associated with the lack of dense bodies in the platelets, resulting in impaired response in the secondary phase of aggregation. Patients with HPS have normal coagulation tests; however, their bleeding time is usually prolonged despite normal or increased platelet counts.

Meningoencephalitis caused by pathogenic Sarcocystis species in a naturally infected sheep in Turkey.

A 3-year-old sheep was examined after an acute onset of hind limb paralysis and ataxia. At necropsy, central nervous system, pulmonary and intestinal hyperaemia and ecchymoses in the aortic arch were observed. Main microscopic lesions were confined to the heart, cerebrum and cerebellum.

Investigation of lipid peroxidation and antiapoptotic effects of zinc aganist liver damage in diabetic rats.

Several mechanisms for the pathogenesis of diabetic complications have been proposed, one of which is abnormal zinc (Zn) homeostasis. Zn is necessary for proper liver function since it has important antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic properties. We aimed to investigate whether or not Zn has morphologically protective effect on diabetes-induced liver damage in rats.

Hemostasis vs. epidural fibrosis?: A comparative study on an experimental rat model of laminectomy.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological and biochemical impact and effectiveness of two hemostatic agents, Ankaferd blood stopper (ABS) and Microporous Polysaccharide Hemospheres (MPH), on epidural fibrosis in an experimental rat laminectomy model.

Material And Methods: Twenty adult Wistar albino rats were divided into MPH-treated (n=6), ABS-treated (n=6) and control (n=8) groups. Laminectomy of the lumbar spine was performed in all animals and treatment groups were exposed to MPH and ABS while closure was applied in control group as per usual.

Anti-inflammatory and ultrastructural effects of Turkish propolis in a rat model of endotoxin-induced uveitis.

Introduction: Experimental animal models of acute uveitis, an inflammatory eye disease, can be established via endotoxin-induced inflammation. Propolis, a natural substance collected by honeybees from buds and tree exudates, has antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effects. We investigated the effects of propolis, obtained from the Sakarya province of Turkey, on endotoxin-induced uveitis using immunohistochemical, ultrastructural, and biochemical approaches.
