Existing analytical techniques are being improved or applied in new ways to profile the tissue microenvironment (TME) to better understand the role of cells in disease research. Fully understanding the complex interactions between cells of many different types and functions is often slowed by the intense data analysis required. Multiplexed Ion Beam Imaging (MIBI) has been developed to simultaneously characterize 50+ cell types and their functions within the TME with a subcellular spatial resolution, but this results in complex data sets that are challenging to qualitatively analyze.

In the rodent, hippocampal neurogenesis plays critical roles in learning and memory, is tightly regulated by inhibitory neurons and contributes to memory dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse models. In contrast, the mechanisms regulating neurogenesis in the adult human hippocampus, the dynamic shifts in the transcriptomic and epigenomic profiles in aging and AD and putative niche interactions within the cellular environment, remain largely unknown. Using single nuclei multi-omics of postmortem human hippocampi we map the molecular mechanisms of hippocampal neurogenesis across aging, cognitive decline, and AD neuropathology.

Scanning probe microscopy (SPM) is ubiquitous in nanoscale science allowing the observation of features in real space down to the angstrom resolution. The scanning nature of SPM, wherein a sharp tip rasters the surface during which a physical setpoint is maintained via a control feedback loop, often implies that the image is subject to drift effects, leading to distortion of the resulting image. While there are in-operando methods to compensate for the drift, correcting the residual linear drift in obtained images is often neglected.

Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is mandatory after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation, but optimal DAPT duration remains a topic of intense discussion. The shorter regimen of DAPT might be especially beneficial for high-bleeding-risk (HBR) patients. Novel stent platforms have been designed with innovations that should facilitate vessel healing following stent implantation and enable short DAPT.

Coral reefs are globally declining due to various anthropogenic stressors. Amongst those, chemical pollutants, such as pesticides from agricultural runoff, sewage or an overabundance of personal care products in coastal waters due to intense tourism, may be considered as a local stressor for reef-building corals. The extent to which such chemicals exhibit toxic effects towards corals at environmentally relevant concentrations is currently controversially discussed and existing studies are often based on varying and sometimes deficient test methods.
