In the United States, it is estimated that 15% of Latinos will experience a depressive or anxiety disorder during their lifetime. Education, prevention programming, and health interventions around topics such as stress, nutrition, mental health, and health maintenance for Latino immigrants are lacking, inadequate, or nonexistent. This type of programming may be protective against depression and anxiety.

Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor commonly used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus for glycaemic control. Concerns have arisen regarding adverse events caused by this drug, particularly concerning arthralgias. Here, we report on a 56-year-old man being treated with sitagliptin who developed inflammatory arthritis after taking the drug for 6 months.

Purpose: Inguinal hernia repair and general anesthesia (GA) are known risk factors for urinary retention. Paravertebral blocks (PVBs) have been utilized to facilitate enhanced recovery after surgery. Background: Nicotinamide has been used with success to prevent type 1 diabetes in animal models and humans. This vitamin B3 derivative has attracting effects on beta-cell protection and regeneration.

Aim/hypothesis: To evaluate the effect of standard nicotinamide administration on type 1 diabetes prevention in first degree relatives of persons with type 1 diabetes as well as on the concentrations of islet-cell-related autoantibodies, insulin secretion and peripheral sensitivity.
