Patients with cirrhosis have high systemic inflammation (TNFα, CRP, and IL-6) that is associated with poor outcomes. These biomarkers need continuous non-invasive monitoring, which is difficult with blood. We studied the AWARE sweat-sensor to measure these in passively expressed sweat in healthy people (N = 12) and cirrhosis (N = 32, 10 outpatients/22 inpatients) for 3 days.

This sensor could dramatically change detection methods and lead us to improve the sensitivity of our tests to overcome the limitations of conventional detection methods. Our label-free biomolecular assay is constructed on an Au-ZnO electrode surface and uses electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to measure the capacitive change in impedance, revealing the binding effects of the target vWFA2, to the capture probe.

The world is facing a food shortage predicament largely fueled by inefficient, outdated farming conventions that are passed down from generation to generation. Overfertilization is one of the major byproducts of inadequate farming techniques. This leads to an imbalance in the soil ecosystem, affecting carbon sequestration, plant-available nutrients, and microorganisms.
