Paired eye comparison of baseline parameters and tomographic characteristics prior to hydrops in patients with keratoconus.

Purpose: To characterise the baseline parameters and tomographic features prior to hydrops in patients with keratoconus.

Methods: Of the 190 patients diagnosed with hydrops, during the study period between 2015 and 2022, 55 eyes of 55 patients who had corneal tomography in both eyes prior to developing hydrops were included in this study. Comparison of clinical and tomography parameters between the eyes was performed.

Necrotizing enterocolitis in a moderately preterm neonate in the first week of life: A case report.

Necrotizing enterocolitis, a life-threatening surgical condition, is uncommon in the first week of life in preterm neonates. However, the certainty of the risk factors contributing to NEC in preterm neonates during the first week of life remains ambiguous. Our case was amoderately preterm, small for gestation at birth, and delivered by emergency Caesarean section for maternal respiratory distress.

Ibudilast Protects Retinal Bipolar Cells From Excitotoxic Retinal Damage and Activates the mTOR Pathway.

Ibudilast, an inhibitor of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and phosphodiesterase (PDE), has been recently shown to have neuroprotective effects in a variety of neurologic diseases. We utilize a chick excitotoxic retinal damage model to investigate ibudilast's potential to protect retinal neurons. Using single cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq), we find that MIF, putative MIF receptors CD74 and CD44, and several PDEs are upregulated in different retinal cells during damage.
