Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the genetic relationship and drug resistance of *Candida parapsilosis* collected from hospitalized patients, aiming to assess whether the resistance is due to transmission or just the spread of resistant strains.
  • A total of 277 isolates were analyzed using various identification methods and molecular genotyping, revealing seven distinct genetic band patterns, predominantly the C pattern which showed persistence from 2017 to 2019.
  • The results indicated a high prevalence of fluconazole resistance (76.17%) among the strains, suggesting a significant increase in the spread and dominance of the C strain over the years in the hospital setting.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and cardiac function as measured by ejection fraction (EF) is an important determinant of outcomes, making accurate measurement a critical parameter in PT evaluation. Echocardiograms are commonly used for measuring EF, but human interpretation has limitations in terms of intra- and inter-observer (or reader) variance. Deep learning (DL) has driven a resurgence in machine learning, leading to advancements in medical applications.

This study aimed to enrich the gene pool through crosses and assess genetic variation among 56 genotypes from five species. Seventeen morphological descriptors were used, and NTSYS-pc software was employed to define genetic relationships, and a UPGMA-generated dendrogram reflected these relationships. Moreover, principal component analysis (PCA) was performed to determine which parameter was more effective in explaining variation.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a DNA virus that can cause widespread, severe infection in immunocompromised patients. While CMV usually leads to a subclinical infection in immunocompetent individuals, it can rarely cause severe disease in this population. The SARS-CoV-2 virus is an RNA virus and part of the  family.
