The mutational drift of SARS-CoV-2 and the appearance of multiple variants, including the latest Omicron variant and its sub-lineages, has significantly reduced (and in some cases abolished) the protective efficacy of Wuhan spike-antigen-based vaccines and therapeutic antibodies. One of the most functionally constrained and thus largely invariable regions of the spike protein is the one involved in the interaction with the ACE2 receptor mediating the cellular entry of SARS-CoV-2. Engineered ACE2, both as a full-length protein or as an engineered polypeptide fragment, has been shown to be capable of preventing the host-cell binding of all viral variants and to be endowed with potent SARS-CoV-2 neutralization activity both in vitro and in vivo.

Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) is widely recognized as the primary cause of cervical and other malignant cancers. There are six licensed prophylactic vaccines available against HPV, but none of them shows any significant therapeutic effect on pre-existing infections or lesions. Thus, a prophylactic vaccine also endowed with therapeutic activity would afford protection regardless of the vaccine recipients HPV-infection status.

Objective: Lynch syndrome (LS) is a hereditary condition associated with an increased risk of colorectal and endometrial cancer. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of women with LS regarding combined hormonal contraceptive (CHC) use compared to a control group of healthy women.

Introduction: Anticancer treatments have significantly contributed to increasing cure rates of breast cancer in the last years; however, they can also lead to short- and long-term side effects, including gonadotoxicity, and compromised fertility in young women. Oncofertility is a crucial issue for young patients who have not yet completed their family planning at the time of cancer diagnosis.

Areas Covered: This review aims to cover all the latest available evidence in the field of oncofertility, including the gonadotoxicity of currently adopted anticancer therapies in the curative breast cancer setting, the available strategies for fertility preservation and the feasibility of achieving a pregnancy following anticancer treatment completion.
