Introduction: Peritoneal equilibration test (PET) has been used to monitor peritoneal function. A more convenient marker would be useful in clinical situations including home medical care. Autotaxin is known to leak into the interstitium as vascular permeability increases during the progression of tissue fibrosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Nucleic acid-amplification testing (NAT) is a method used to check blood donations for harmful viruses to keep people safe.
  • In 2019, a global survey showed that countries mostly followed government rules for testing blood for viruses like HIV and hepatitis.
  • The results indicated a trend towards using individual samples for testing instead of larger pools to improve safety in blood donations.

Article Synopsis
  • The project reviewed the global use of nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT) in blood services to detect viral and parasite nucleic acids and reduce transfusion-related infections.
  • A survey conducted among members of the International Society of Blood Transfusion revealed a significant increase in NAT adoption over the past decade, with data showing low but notable positivity rates for various viruses in blood donations.
  • While NAT has enhanced blood transfusion safety worldwide, there is a call to address economic barriers that prevent some regions from implementing these important testing methods.

Over the last decade, there has been growing interest in learning the mapping from structural connectivity (SC) to functional connectivity (FC) of the brain. The spontaneous fluctuations of the brain activity during the resting-state as captured by functional MRI (rsfMRI) contain rich non-stationary dynamics over a relatively fixed structural connectome. Among the modeling approaches, graph diffusion-based methods with single and multiple diffusion kernels approximating static or dynamic functional connectivity have shown promise in predicting the FC given the SC.

Objectives: This study aimed to clarify the disinfectant efficacy of the 222-nm far ultraviolet-C (UV-C) during esophagogastroduodenoscopy using bacterial cultures.

Methods: The endoscopists performed esophagogastroduodenoscopy wearing a gown with a tryptic soy agar medium plate on their epigastric region and were divided into two groups: 222-nm far UV-C irradiation (UV group) and non-UV irradiation (non-UV group). As a control group, tryptic soy agar medium plates were placed about 110 cm above the floor.
