NADPH oxidase subunit p22: A marker of oxidase-dependent oxidative stress and target for stress suppression in nonphagocytic cells.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-producing NADPH oxidase (Nox) family proteins are involved in host defense. The overproduction of ROS leads to oxidative stress, which is associated with a myriad of diseases. The Nox subunit p22 is essential for Nox1-4 activity, and p22 and Nox2 proteins are mutually stabilized in phagocytic cells.

Reversed loneliness development after age 65 for men and women: Modeling of the age trajectories of loneliness using national cohorts in Taiwan and Japan.

Aim: This study depicts the age trajectories of loneliness and gender differences among older adults in Taiwan and Japan.

Methods: Two nationally representative data sets for older adults in Taiwan and Japan were obtained from the Taiwan Longitudinal Study on Aging (TLSA, 1996-2011) and the National Survey of the Japanese Elderly (NSJE, 1996-2012), respectively. The analytic sample included 3037 and 1974 older adults aged 65 and over at baseline in Taiwan and Japan, respectively.

The association of fasting triglyceride variability with renal dysfunction and proteinuria in medical checkup participants.

Background: The association between the variability of triglyceride (TG) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression remains unclear. We examined whether intraindividual variability in fasting TG was associated with the exacerbation of CKD.

Colloid Adenocarcinoma of the Lung With Concomitant Pulmonary Actinomycosis: A Case Report.

Colloid adenocarcinoma of the lung is a rare subtype of lung adenocarcinoma characterised by the destruction of pre-existing airspaces caused by mucin produced by the tumour. Pulmonary actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative lung disease caused by that is sometimes difficult to differentiate from lung cancer. Here, we report a case of pulmonary colloid adenocarcinoma complicated by pulmonary actinomycosis.

Improvement in Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Paralysis and Tracheal Deviation after Surgical Resection of a Mediastinal Parathyroid Cyst: A Case Report.

Introduction: Mediastinal parathyroid cyst is a rare cystic disease that involves the parathyroid tissue within its walls. This case report is the first to document a mediastinal parathyroid cyst with recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis and tracheal deviation that improved after surgical resection.
