Novel 'mini-incision' metacarpal fixation technique for long oblique and spiral shaft fractures.

Background: Metacarpal shaft fractures account for 30 % of all hand fractures, and long oblique and spiral shaft fractures represent a significant quantity. Closed or open reduction and internal fixation is generally indicated for unstable fractures, rotational malalignment or significant metacarpal shortening. Various techniques can achieve appropriate fixation, though no single technique has been proven to be superior across all cases.

Aim And Background: Our study explored the novel mechanisms implicated in the anti-rheumatic potential of fisetin and/or nicorandil (NIC) intervention.

Methods And Materials: Fifty male rats were categorized into; control, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), fisetin-treated RA, NIC-treated RA, and co-treated RA groups. We assessed paw thickness, arthritis indices, serum CRP, RF, OPG, RANKL, and gene expressions of synovial TLR4, NLRP3, caspase-1, GSDMD, Nrf-2, and HO, along with synovial histopathology and NF-κB immunoreactivity.

Quality of hypertension management and health insurance impact: an assessment of insured and uninsured patients with systemic hypertension in a teaching Hospital in Ilorin, Nigeria.

Background: Patient satisfaction is an important indicator used to measure quality of care and the performance of healthcare services. This study assessed patient satisfaction with the quality of hypertension care received by both insured and uninsured patients with systemic hypertension.

Methods: This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted among insured and uninsured patients with systemic hypertension attending the Medical Outpatient Department clinics of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Kwara State, Nigeria, from May to July, 2023.

Pyrroloquinoline quinone-loaded coaxial nanofibers prevent oxidative stress after spinal cord injury.

Oxidative stress plays a major role in the secondary injury of the spinal cord tissue due to the high lipid content of nervous tissue. In the present study, coaxial nanofibers were loaded with the natural antioxidant pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) and used as an implantable drug-delivery system and a scaffold post-SCI. The obtained data show that the concentration of NO and the activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) were significantly ( < 0.
