Reducing meat consumption is crucial for improving population and planetary health. Millions of students regularly eat at university cafeterias, which offer a unique opportunity to promote meat-free meals to new generations by addressing barriers such as accessibility, price, and cooking skills. This study aimed to analyse the individual characteristics associated with the proportion of vegetarian main dish choices in a university cafeteria and to determine whether this behaviour influenced the nutritional quality and environmental impact of student meals.

Article Synopsis
  • - Understanding the origins of Eating in the Absence of Hunger (EAH) is important for addressing weight gain in childhood, and this study focused on toddlers to examine the links between EAH and parental feeding practices, especially instrumental feeding.
  • - The study involved 66 parents and toddlers, assessing EAH through a lab paradigm, while parents reported on feeding practices, children's temperament, and food accessibility, with the children's height and weight measured to calculate BMI.
  • - Findings revealed that toddlers' EAH wasn't influenced by instrumental feeding or their temperament, but there was a positive correlation with parental restrictions for health reasons, particularly when food was more accessible, indicating that controlling food access may help manage EAH in early childhood.

Background: While complementary feeding can be challenging, little emphasis has been placed on the introduction to food texture/pieces, especially in terms of neurodevelopmental outcomes. This study aims to determine the association between the timing of introduction to food pieces during infancy and neurodevelopment in early childhood. We hypothesized that late introduction to food texture/pieces relates to unfavorable neurodevelopmental outcomes.
