Article Synopsis
  • - Recent conservation efforts in Germany have led to increasing populations of European wildcats, heightening the risk of zoonotic pathogen transmission between wildcats and domestic cats as both populations grow closer together.
  • - A study collected skin and spleen samples from 117 wildcats in southwestern Germany and tested for several vector-borne pathogens (VBPs) using PCR methods, finding that 6.8% were Rickettsia-positive and a significant 71.8% tested positive for Cytauxzoon spp., a pathogen harmful to domestic cats.
  • - The findings indicate that while most examined pathogens were rare in wildcats, the high prevalence of Cytauxzoon spp. suggests that these wildcats could be important carriers of the pathogen, potentially

Article Synopsis
  • Oral rabies vaccination (ORV) is effective in foxes and raccoon dogs, but it varies in efficacy among other species like raccoons, mongooses, dogs, and skunks.
  • Researchers conducted a study using a specific rabies virus to discover how different species respond, finding distinct patterns of virus replication and limitations based on the species.
  • The study highlighted the significance of the palatine tonsils in vaccine response, suggesting other lymphoid tissues might be crucial as well, which could inform future improvements in rabies vaccine strategies.

The complex architecture of neuronal networks in the brain requires tight control of the actin cytoskeleton. The actin nucleator Cobl is critical for neuronal morphogenesis. Here we reveal that Cobl is controlled by arginine methylation.

Oral vaccination using attenuated and recombinant rabies vaccines has been proven a powerful tool to combat rabies in wildlife. However, clear differences have been observed in vaccine titers needed to induce a protective immune response against rabies after oral vaccination in different reservoir species. The mechanisms contributing to the observed resistance against oral rabies vaccination in some species are not completely understood.

Unlabelled: Although several new biomarkers have been recently proposed for psoriasis (Ps) and psoriasis arthritis (PsA), nothing is known about their diagnostic sensitivity and specificity, and their routine use. We therefore searched in-depth for new biomarker candidates using a biobank with EDTA-plasma from 158 individuals, patients and healthy controls. Samples from 6 selected pairs (patients against healthy controls) were searched proteomically using a workflow of extensive and precise design that is highly comprehensive.
