Objective: The study objective was to assess adverse events, readmissions, and resource use associated with routine jejunostomy tube placement after esophagectomy.

Methods: From September 2018 to October 2021, 215 patients, with a median age of 65 years and a median body mass index of 27 kg/m, underwent routine jejunostomy tube placement during esophagectomy. J-tube-related adverse events were collected from date of surgery to date of removal and categorized as (1) nonserious, resource-nonintensive (eg, skin irritations, discomfort); (2) nonserious, resource-intensive (eg, infection, clogged, and dislodged tubes); and (3) serious, resource-intensive (eg, bowel obstruction, volvulus, tube feed intolerance).

Objectives: Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) capacity is a current and future health system challenge. Despite experiencing two pandemics in as many decades and surges every winter, we have little to no information on PICU capacity in Canada. Our objective was to characterize the bed capacity of Canadian PICUs and their ability to accommodate surges in demand.

Crohn's disease (CD) involves a complex intestinal microenvironment driven by chronic inflammation. While single-cell RNA sequencing has provided valuable insights into this biology, the spatial context is lost during single-cell preparation of mucosal biopsies. To deepen our understanding of the distinct inflammatory signatures of CD and overcome the limitations of single-cell RNA sequencing, we combined spatial transcriptomics of frozen CD surgical tissue sections with single-cell transcriptomics of ileal CD mucosa.

Hematoma expansion (HE) is an independent predictor of poor outcomes and a modifiable treatment target in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Evaluating HE in large datasets requires segmentation of hematomas on admission and follow-up CT scans, a process that is time-consuming and labor-intensive in large-scale studies. Automated segmentation of hematomas can expedite this process; however, cumulative errors from segmentation on admission and follow-up scans can hamper accurate HE classification.

Background: The need of the hour is to incorporate a rapid assay that could efficiently detect neonatal sepsis. We evaluated the diagnostic utility of 16SrRNA broad-range polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in neonatal sepsis.

Methods: The demographic and clinical details of 100 neonates clinically suspected to have sepsis were collected adopting pretested clinical proforma, followed by baseline laboratory investigations, including blood culture, complete blood counts, and C-reactive protein (CRP).
