A new gas analytical technique for infrared laser spectroscopy combined with differential pressure measurement (IR-DP) is developed. The basic idea of this technique is that the absorption process of molecules by laser irradiation is monitored as the pressure enhancement in a gas cell by use of a differential pressure gauge. The system is composed of a tunable IR laser system, sample cell, differential pressure gauge, and data accumulation system.

The recent large outbreaks of Ebola virus disease in West Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have highlighted the need for rapid diagnostic tests to control this disease. In this chapter, the development of immunochromatographic lateral flow assays to detect filovirus nucleoproteins is described as an example of designing rapid diagnostic tests.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to predict the four cold-heat patterns in patients who have the subjective symptoms of the cold-heat pattern described in the International Classification of Diseases Traditional Medicine Conditions - Module 1 by applying a machine learning algorithm.

Methods: Subjects were first-visit Kampo outpatients at six institutions who agreed to participate in this multicenter prospective observational study. The cold pattern model and the heat pattern model were created separately with 148 symptoms, body mass index, blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), age, and sex.
