Amyand's hernia is a rare condition, in which the appendix is found in the inguinal hernia sac. Many patients remain asymptomatic and this pathological condition is most commonly diagnosed intraoperatively. We report a case of a 66-year-old male who was admitted to the hospital for an inguinal hernia repair and the presence of the appendix in the inguinal hernia sac was discovered intraoperatively.

Background: Mirizzi syndrome (MS) is a complicated form of longstanding, symptomatic cholelithiasis. According to Beltran Classification MS Type V has been introduced to describe the cholecystoenteric fistula, with or without gallstone ileus. Mirizzi syndrome Type V with double fistula has been reported in the past; however, the triple fistula is an even rarer case, first described in the international literature so far.

Red algae of the genus are known to biosynthesize and secrete an immense variety of secondary metabolites possessing a spectrum of biological activities against bacteria, invertebrates and mammalian cell lines. Following a rigorous cross-species screening process, herein we report the antifouling potential of 25 secondary metabolites derived from species of the genus , as well as the thorough evaluation of the ecotoxicity of selected metabolites against non-target marine arthropods and vertebrate cell lines. A number of these secondary metabolites exhibited potent antifouling activity and performed well in all screening tests.

Reproduction in barnacles relies on chemical cues that guide their gregarious settlement. These cues have been pinned down to several sources of settlement pheromones, one of which is a protein termed settlement-inducing protein complex (SIPC), a large glycoprotein acting as a pheromone to induce larval settlement and as an adhesive in surface exploration by the cyprids. HPTLC is a convenient method for confirming the presence and identification of pesticide residues following gas chromatographic analysis of sample solutions obtained by clean-up according to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft multiresidue method S 19. For several crops, however, the polar eluates 4 and 5 obtained from the small silica gel column are abounding with co-extractives which interfere with HPTLC determination and also with GLC in some cases. They are effectively removed by solid phase extraction on a small aminopropyl cartridge, using a tertbutyl methyl ether/methanol (99 + 1) mixture as the eluant.
