Purpose: Solutions of iodine-based compounds, due to their high X-ray attenuation coefficient, are widely used as contrast agents in computed tomography (CT) imaging. This paper investigates the attenuation properties of iodine and gold to develop nanoparticle-based contrast agents, for example, composite nanoparticles (NPs) with layers of iodine and gold or a mixture of NPs of gold and iodine.

Materials And Methods: A theoretical formula is derived that gives the Hounsfield Unit (HU) for different weight-by-weight (w/w) concentrations of a mixture of blood + iodine + gold.

The aim of this study is to develop a digital monitoring system to track weight and evaluate its impact on postoperative outcomes after lower extremity surgeries (LES). In this paper, a controllable hybrid plasmonic integrated circuit (CHPIC) composed of hybrid plasmonic waveguide (HPW)-based rhombic nano-antenna, polarization beam splitter, coupler, filter, and sensor has been designed and investigated for the first time. In order to control the power into a corresponding input port, a graphene-based 1 × 3 power splitter with switchable output has been exploited. The functionality of each device has been studied comprehensively based on the finite element method and the advantages over state-of-the-art have been compared.

Transcatheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI) was introduced in early 2000 to offer treatment to inoperable patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. In a couple of decades, the procedure resulted effective and safe also in patients with intermediate to low risk for surgery; therefore, due to the progressive ageing of the population, the clinical need for TAVI is continuously increasing and is hardly met by the availability of the procedure, the so-called "TAVI capacity". As a result, many patients encounter difficulties in being referred to TAVI centers or face long waiting list times, thus risking severe adverse events (including death) before the procedure is performed.
