The recent COVID-19 pandemic and the prospect of future global pandemics highlight the long-standing need to passively eliminate viruses and bacteria on surfaces. Conventional antimicrobial surfaces and coatings are typically constrained by a trade-off between antimicrobial efficacy and physical durability. A biphasic polyurethane coating has been developed that breaks this trade-off by incorporating a durability-imparting polycarbonate (PC) discrete phase with a continuous poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) transport phase that absorbs, stores, and releases antimicrobial active compounds for extended microbial inactivation.

Background: Patients with severe lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) from giant prostatic hyperplasia (GPH): prostate volume greater than 200 mL that do not respond to medical therapy may not be eligible for surgical treatments due to morbidities, technical challenges, and patient preference. This retrospective investigation examined the long-term efficacy and safety of prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) as a treatment option for severe LUTS due to GPH in a large patient cohort.

Methods: Of 529 patients who underwent PAE between January 2016 and January 2020, 72 patients had severe LUTS from GPH and were retrospectively evaluated.

Background And Purpose: The clinical implications of gadolinium deposition in the CNS are not fully understood, and it is still not known whether gadolinium tends to be retained more in the brain compared with the spinal cord. In this study, we assessed the effects of linear gadolinium-based contrast agents on the T1 signal intensity of 3 cerebral areas (dentate nucleus, globus pallidus, and the less studied substantia nigra) and the cervical spinal cord in a population of patients with MS.

Materials And Methods: A single-center population of 100 patients with MS was analyzed.
