  • The study aimed to compare the color and light-transmittance changes of rough and smooth thermoformed retainers made from copolyester and polyurethane after they were stained and then destained.
  • Over 800 samples were stained in various solutions for 28 days and then subjected to multiple destaining methods; light transmittance and color changes were measured objectively.
  • Results showed that while both materials stained similarly, rough surfaces of materials were more affected by staining and destaining processes, with coffee and tea causing the most significant color changes.

Allergic diseases can be affected by virus-host interactions and are increasingly linked with the tissue-specific microbiome. High-throughput metagenomic sequencing has offered the opportunity to study the presence of viruses as an ecologic system, namely, the virome. Even though virome studies are technically challenging conceptually and analytically, they are already producing novel data expanding our understanding of the pathophysiologic mechanisms related to chronic inflammation and allergy.
