Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the gold standard in the treatment of symptomatic gallstones. The large number of gallbladders removed every year is not fully consistent with the excessively high incidence of iatrogenic bile duct injury (IBDI). Several strategies have been suggested to reduce this risk.

Nonetheless, the prognostic role of oligomers for disease progression is unknown. We explored whether α-synuclein oligomers evaluated as proximity ligation assay (PLA) score may predict the worsening of cognitive functions in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Searching for a peripheral biomarker that can be used for selecting and monitoring patients in clinical trials targeting GBA1-associated PD (GBA1-PD) is a current challenge. We previously demonstrated that α-synuclein oligomers expressed as proximity ligation assay (PLA) score in synaptic terminals of skin biopsy are a reliable biomarker for distinguishing idiopathic PD (iPD) from healthy controls (HC).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: Striatin (Strn) is a scaffold protein expressed in cardiomyocytes (CMs) and alteration of its expression are described in various cardiac diseases. However, the alteration underlying its pathogenicity have been poorly investigated.
Methods: We studied the role(s) of cardiac Strn gene (STRN) by comparing the functional properties of CMs, generated from Strn-KO and isogenic WT mouse embryonic stem cell lines.
Objective: To describe the patterns of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) occurrence in children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) across several Latin American pediatric diabetes centers from 2018 to 2022.
Methods: A retrospective chart review included children under 18 with new-onset T1DM from 30 Latin American pediatric diabetes centers (Argentina, Chile, and Peru) between 30 December 2018 and 30 December 2022. Multiple logistic regression models examined the relationships between age, gender, medical insurance, BMI, and DKA at new-onset T1DM.
