Estimation of Air Travel-Related Greenhouse Gas Emissions for the In-Person Anesthesiology Oral Board Examination.

With an increased focus on climate change in graduate medical education (GME), the environmental implications of travel for board certification examinations remain poorly described. The return to the mandatory in-person applied examination (AE) for board eligible anesthesiologists presents potentially sizeable greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when compared to the virtual format administered during the COVID-19 pandemic. To estimate the GHG emissions from air travel to the in-person AE and discuss its implications for various specialties as they return to in-person examinations.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation of Primary Motor Cortex over Multiple Days Improves Motor Learning of a Complex Overhand Throwing Task.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) applied to the primary motor cortex (M1) improves motor learning in relatively simple motor tasks performed with the hand and arm. However, it is unknown if tDCS can improve motor learning in complex motor tasks involving whole-body coordination with significant endpoint accuracy requirements. The primary purpose was to determine the influence of tDCS on motor learning over multiple days in a complex over-hand throwing task.

An Unusual Case of Morphea in the Setting of Aplastic Anemia.

Cutaneous sclerosis occurs in association with a variety of systemic diseases, including hematologic malignancy, plasma cell dyscrasias, solid organ tumors, and other systemic autoimmune conditions. Herein, we present a unique case of morphea/lichen sclerosus overlap arising in association with aplastic anemia. To expand upon this rare case, we also review the literature surrounding paraneoplastic sclerosing skin disorders.

Cone-beam computed tomography as a surgical guide to impacted anterior teeth.

Surgical procedure for removal of impacted teeth is a challenge for clinicians as it involves accuracy in the diagnosis and localization of the dental elements. The cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), compared to the conventional radiography, has a greater potential to provide complementary information because of its three-dimensional (3D) images, reducing the possibility of failures in surgical procedures. Two 10-year-old boys presented with aesthetic issues associated with the juxtaposition of ectopic teeth with the permanent ones.

Specific variants of H1 histone regulate CpG methylation in eukaryotic DNA.

Upon HPLC fractionation of human placenta or calf thymus H1 histone preparations, only some fractions enriched in the H1e-c variants were able to exert a severe inhibition on in vitro enzymatic DNA methylation. These fractions, though similar to the other variants in interacting with genomic DNA, were also the only ones which could bind CpG-rich ds-oligodeoxyribonucleotides (oligos). Both the 6-CpG ds-oligo and the DNA purified from chromatin fractions enriched in 'CpG islands' were good competitors for the binding of H1e-c to the 6meCpG ds-oligo.
