Article Synopsis
  • Endoscopic cysto-gastrostomy (ECG) is the preferred treatment for pancreatic pseudocysts (PPCs), involving a connection between the cyst and the gastrointestinal tract using stents.
  • A study analyzed data from 39 patients to compare the effectiveness of double pigtail plastic stents (DPPSs) and lumen-apposing fully covered metal stents (LAMSs) in treating PPCs.
  • Results showed that LAMSs were used for larger cysts, had a lower recurrence rate, and while both stent types showed high success and low complication rates, LAMSs had a slightly better outcome overall.

Article Synopsis
  • Sepsis is a serious condition caused by the body's extreme response to infection, impacting organ function.
  • A study assessed the effectiveness of presepsin (P-SEP) in predicting death risk in sepsis patients upon ICU admission, alongside other inflammatory markers like CRP, PCT, and IL-6.
  • Findings revealed that none of these markers, including P-SEP, were reliable indicators for predicting mortality, but higher levels were associated with positive microbiological tests for infections.

BACKGROUND Hemorrhagic cysts are rarely discussed subtypes of pancreatic pseudocysts that occur in about 10% of these cases. They are caused by erosion of the walls of neighboring vessels by extravasated proteolytic pancreatic enzymes. A retrospective analysis was performed to clinically characterize risk factors, treatment, and outcome in patients with hemorrhagic cysts of the pancreas.

The basic variant of the integrated calibration method (ICM), based on a combination of external calibration (EC) and standard addition method (SAM), was applied to multi-component (MC) analysis to obtain a new methodological approach to improve the quality of analytical results. The analytical performance of the proposed method was evaluated on indicated by EPA polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) determination in various environmental samples (air, house dust, tap water, river water, river sediment, and snow) from the Katowice region (Poland). HPLC-FLD was used during all analyses.

Clostridium botulinum strains are prevalent in the environment and produce a potent neurotoxin that causes botulism, a rare but serious paralytic disease. In 2010, a national PulseNet database was established to curate C. botulinum pulsotypes and facilitate epidemiological investigations, particularly for serotypes A and B strains frequently associated with botulism cases in the United States.
