Clinical Epidemiology, Etiology, and Outcomes of Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding at a Tertiary Center in Bahrain: A Retrospective Study.

Background Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is one of the most common major medical emergencies. This study sought to determine the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of UGIB in the largest major tertiary care center in Bahrain, compared to regional and international cohorts. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study of all patients diagnosed with UGIB between April 2021 and April 2022 in Salmaniya Medical Complex, Bahrain's largest tertiary-level public hospital.

Fabrication of poly (quinine--itaconic acid) incorporated reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite and its application for electrochemical sensing and photocatalysis of hydroquinone.

In this work, we report the synthesis of poly (quinine--itaconic acid) incorporated graphene oxide composite that is electro-active and photo-active simultaneously. The poly (quinine--itaconic acid)@rGO composite was successfully utilized for electrochemical detection and photocatalytic degradation of hydroquinone (HQ). HQ is recognized as an environmental pollutant because of its high toxicity to human health even at low concentrations.

Comprehensive framework for interpretation of WaPOR water productivity.

This study presents a comprehensive framework for analyzing water productivity products provided by the FAO Water Productivity Open-access portal (WaPOR), focusing on various crops cultivated in both rainfed and irrigated areas within a semi-arid basin in Iran. Two indices, namely Gross Water Productivity (GWP) and Net Water Productivity (NWP), were introduced to quantify water productivity across crop fields. However, these indices may mislead decision-makers, because they aggregate water productivity for all crops and exacerbate the challenges posed by water scarcity.

Trauma care supported through a global telemedicine initiative during the 2023-24 military assault on the Gaza Strip, occupied Palestinian territory: a case series.

Background: Hospitals, patients, and health-care workers are legally protected by international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention. However, since Oct 7, 2023, the health-care system in the Gaza Strip, occupied Palestinian territory, has been under unprecedented direct military attacks by Israel, with support for patients proving to be challenging for the remaining health-care workers. Peer-to-peer telemedicine holds promise for assisting surgeons in high-risk, low-resource environments, but might be of reduced utility in extremely austere settings.
