It is essential to know the detailed structure of the thin filament to understand the regulation mechanism of striated muscle contraction. Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) was used to construct an atomic model of the actin-tropomyosin (Tm)-troponin (Tn) core domain complex. We generated single-cysteine mutants in the 167-195 region of Tm and in TnC, TnI, and the β-TnT 25-kDa fragment, and each was attached with an energy donor probe.

Fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) was used to construct an atomic model of the actin-tropomyosin (Tm) complex on a reconstituted thin filament. We generated five single-cysteine mutants in the 146-174 region of rabbit skeletal muscle α-Tm. An energy donor probe was attached to a single-cysteine Tm residue, while an energy acceptor probe was located in actin Gln41, actin Cys374, or the actin nucleotide binding site.

Total aortic arch replacement using the 'elephant trunk (ET)' procedure has commonly been applied to acute aortic dissection, but enlargement of a residual false lumen of the descending thoracic aorta sometimes occurs. We performed endovascular stent-grafting to close the entry as the second operation and obtained successful outcomes. From April 1997 to January 2004, we performed the modified ET procedure for acute aortic dissection in 29 patients and evaluated postoperative changes of the false lumen.

The patient was a 75-year-old female who had received medical treatment for effort angina. Recently, she noticed a left breast tumor, which was diagnosed as breast cancer with axillary lymph node swelling. Coronary angiography performed prior to the surgery for the breast cancer showed 90% stenosis in segment 6 of the left anterior descending artery (LAD).

Obstruction of the endograft limb by thrombosis has often been reported and may cause fatal complications such as leg necrosis or myonephropathic metabolic syndrome. The purpose of this study was to evaluate endograft antithrombogenicity by indium-111 platelet scintigraphy. Seventeen patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms were treated by endografting.
