Intensifying extreme droughts are altering lentic ecosystems and disrupting services provisioning. Unfortunately, drought research often lacks a holistic and intersectoral consideration of drought impacts, which can limit relevance of the insights for adaptive management. This literature review evaluated the current state of lake and reservoir extreme drought research in relation to biodiversity and three ecosystem services.

Here, we sought to express recombinant PFKFB2 and develop a robust protocol to measure its kinase activity. These studies resulted in the unexpected finding that bacterially expressed PFKFB2 is phosphorylated on Ser483 but is not a result of autophosphorylation.

Methods: E. faecalis strains EF24, GU02, GU03, and phiEF14H1 were used.
Ovarian aging is characterized by declines in follicular reserve and the emergence of mitochondrial dysfunction, reactive oxygen species production, inflammation, and fibrosis, which eventually results in menopause. Menopause is associated with increased systemic aging and the development of numerous comorbidities; therefore, the attenuation of ovarian aging could also delay systemic aging processes in women. Recent work has established that the anti-diabetic drug Canagliflozin (Cana), a sodium-glucose transporter 2 inhibitor, elicits benefits on aging-related outcomes, likely through the modulation of nutrient-sensing pathways and metabolic homeostasis.

Purpose: To determine the relationship between trunk muscle cross-sectional area (CSA) measured using trunk computed tomography at the time of injury and gait ability at discharge.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study was performed in comprehensive rehabilitation units of four hospitals in Japan. The study included 442 patients with hip fractures who underwent surgery (bipolar hip arthroplasty or open reduction and internal fixation) and were hospitalized for treatment between January 2020 and January 2023.
