The association between paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) and urothelial carcinoma - A review of the literature.

Paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) are rare neurological disorders arising from malignancy-triggered autoimmunity, yet their association with urothelial carcinoma remains unclear. This systematic review intends to explore any connection, alongside patient/clinical features and management. A literature search identified 25 cases of bladder and upper tract carcinoma linked to PNS.

A Spectral-Based Approach for BCG Signal Content Classification.

This paper has two objectives: the first is to generate two binary flags to indicate useful frames permitting the measurement of cardiac and respiratory rates from Ballistocardiogram (BCG) signals-in fact, human body activities during measurements can disturb the BCG signal content, leading to difficulties in vital sign measurement; the second objective is to achieve refined BCG signal segmentation according to these activities. The proposed framework makes use of two approaches: an unsupervised classification based on the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and a supervised classification based on K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN). Both of these approaches consider two spectral features, namely the Spectral Flatness Measure (SFM) and Spectral Centroid (SC), determined during the feature extraction step.

Atypical cortical language organization in epilepsy patients: evidence for divergent hemispheric dominance for receptive and expressive language function.

The central goal of presurgical language mapping is to identify brain regions that subserve cortical language function to minimize postsurgical language deficits. Presurgical language mapping in patients with epilepsy presents a key challenge because of the atypical pattern of hemispheric language dominance found in this population, with higher incidences of bilateral and right-biased language dominance than typical. In this prospective study, we combine magnetoencephalography with a panel of tasks designed to separately assess receptive and expressive function to provide a sensitive measure of language function in 15 candidates for resective surgery.

Lymphoma occurring during pregnancy: antenatal therapy, complications, and maternal survival in a multicenter analysis.

Purpose: Lymphoma is the fourth most frequent cancer in pregnancy; however, current clinical practice is based largely on small series and case reports.

Patients And Methods: In a multicenter retrospective analysis, we examined treatment, complications, and outcomes for Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) occurring during pregnancy.

Results: Among 90 patients (NHL, n = 50; HL, n = 40), median age was 30 years (range, 18 to 44 years) and median diagnosis occurred at 24 weeks gestation.

We investigated field-dependent, gender-specific effects of the selective pressures individuals experience as they pursue a career in academia within seven STEM disciplines. We built a unique database that comprises 437,787 publications authored by 4,292 faculty members at top United States research universities.
