Our group has synthesized a pleiotropic synthetic nanozyme redox mediator we term a "pleozyme" that displays multiple enzymatic characteristics, including acting as a superoxide dismutase mimetic, oxidizing NADH to NAD, and oxidizing HS to polysulfides and thiosulfate. Benefits have been seen in acute and chronic neurological disease models. The molecule is sourced from coconut-derived activated charcoal that has undergone harsh oxidization with fuming nitric acid, which alters the structure and chemical characteristics, yielding 3-8 nm discs with broad redox potential.

To the best of our knowledge, the use of ultrasound has not been reported as an adjunct prior to an awake urgent tracheostomy in these types of patients. Our main objective is to provide an additional tool for identification of vital neck structures in preparation for an awake tracheostomy.

These PAD can be used for the topical treatment of persistent infections caused by fungi and bacteria and are also applicable in light antitumor therapy for carcinoma. The synthesized PAD were designed employing conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPN) doped with platinum porphyrin which serve as polymerization photoinitiators and photosensitizers for the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

This study also tested feasibility of family care partner interventions for delirium prevention.
Methods: This single-center, pilot clinical trial factorially randomized 57 non-cardiac surgical patients ≥70 years of age to 4 arms: (1) standard care, (2) pager alerts to accelerate HELP enrollment, (3) family care partner-based delirium prevention interventions, or (4) a combined arm with both HELP and family interventions.

Objective: To evaluate agomelatine treatment in elderly patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) who developed hyponatremia while using selective serotonin receptor inhibitors (SSRIs).
Methods: Patients (60 years or older) with hyponatremia after SSRI treatment for MDD were changed to agomelatine 50 mg/day during one month to observe sodium levels during the treatment and change in depressive symptoms. Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) and the Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI) of severity were used before and after treatment with agomelatine.
