Bacterial adhesion in the gut is critical to evaluate their effectiveness as probiotics. Understanding the bacterial adhesion within the complex gut environment is challenging. This study explores the adhesion mechanisms and the adhesion potential of five selected bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, Faecalibacterium duncaniae, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium longum subsp.

This narrative review aims to identify and summarize existing research to better understand the pathophysiological and neuroanatomical bases of social cognition deficits in people with epilepsy. The neuroanatomical basis of social cognition was primarily examined in healthy subjects. In healthy individuals, social cognition is supported by a complex network of interconnected brain regions.

Background: Antiplatelet drugs represent potential candidates for protecting the penumbral microcirculation during cerebral ischemia and improving the benefits of arterial recanalization in ischemic stroke. Yet while the efficacy of such adjuvant strategies has been shown to be highly time dependent, antiplatelet therapy at the acute phase of ischemic stroke cannot be envisioned until the diagnosis of stroke and its ischemic nature have been confirmed because of the presumed risk of worsening bleeding in case of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Here, we investigated this risk for 2 antiplatelet drugs currently being tested in clinical trials for ischemic stroke, glenzocimab and eptifibatide, in 2 mouse models of ICH.

Cerebellar functional and structural connectivity are likely related to motor function after stroke. Less is known about motor recovery, which is defined as a gain of function between two time points, and about the involvement of the cerebellum. Fifteen patients who were hospitalized between 2018 and 2020 for a first cerebral ischemic event with persistent upper limb deficits were assessed by resting-state functional MRI (rsfMRI) and clinical motor score measurements at 3, 9 and 15 weeks after stroke.

Global changes can profoundly affect the sex determination and reproductive output of marine organisms, disrupting the population structure and ecosystems. High COdriven low pH in the context of ocean acidification (OA) has been shown to severely affect various calcifiers, but less is known about the extent to which low pH influences sex determination and reproduction of marine organisms, particularly mollusks. This study is the first to report a biased sex ratio over multiple generations toward females, driven by exposure to high CO-induced low pH environments, using the ecologically and economically important Portuguese oyster () as a model.
