: This research examines the characteristics associated with the use of remote consultations in general practice in Ireland during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. : The analysis uses three waves of a nationally representative cross-sectional survey of health in Ireland ("Healthy Ireland" survey), relating to the years 2020/2021, 2021/2022, and 2022/2023. The sample includes people aged 15 and over who reported seeing a general practitioner (GP) in the 4 weeks prior to the survey.

Many forms of autoimmune encephalitis are mediated by neuronal cell-surface directed autoantibodies. The co-occurrence of four neuronal cell-surface antibodies in a single patient is exceptionally rare. We report a patient who had a severe encephalitis associated with antibodies to NMDA, Glycine, GABA and GABA receptors.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to determine the reference interval (RI) for fecal calprotectin (fCP) levels and fCP:protein ratios in healthy horses to assess their potential for diagnosing intestinal inflammation in horses with colic and colitis.
  • - Fecal samples were analyzed from 103 healthy horses and 28 horses with intestinal conditions, revealing that colitis cases had significantly higher fCP levels and fCP:protein ratios compared to healthy horses and colic cases.
  • - The findings suggest that elevated fCP and fCP:protein ratios could be indicative of colitis but further research is necessary to develop reliable diagnostic tests for equine intestinal inflammation.

Article Synopsis
  • - Airway macrophages (AM) are key immune cells in the lungs that help protect against infections, making them important for targeted therapies aimed at enhancing immune responses.
  • - The study investigates how different types of macrophages respond to signaling molecules (IFN-γ and IL-4) that represent immune responses in the lungs, finding that AM rely heavily on glycolysis for their functions, especially in cytokine production.
  • - Results show that AM exhibit unique metabolic responses and functional plasticity compared to monocyte-derived macrophages (MDM), suggesting that AM could be effective targets for new inhaled treatments for lung diseases.

Introgression is a highly influential process in evolution, where genes flow between species that are not fully reproductively isolated. Studies on introgression often focus on describing gene transfer and environmental changes that facilitate the meeting of species. However, the impact of mating systems and behaviour that facilitate gene transfer is less well-known.
