Pediatric Peroneal Nerve Palsy Secondary to Fibular Osteochondroma.

Peripheral nerve injuries due to mass effect from bony lesions can occur when the nerve exists in an anatomically constrained location, such as the common peroneal nerve at the fibular head which passes into the tight fascia of the lateral leg compartment. We report a case of a pediatric patient who developed a common peroneal nerve palsy secondary to an osteochondroma of the fibular head and describe the clinical evaluation, radiographic findings, and surgical approach. Rapid diagnosis and nerve decompression after the onset of symptoms restored full motor function at the 8-month postoperative mark.

Hearing Assessment and Rehabilitation for People Living With Dementia.

Hearing impairment commonly co-occurs with dementia. Audiologists, therefore, need to be prepared to address the specific needs of people living with dementia (PwD). PwD have needs in terms of dementia-friendly clinical settings, assessments, and rehabilitation strategies tailored to support individual requirements that depend on social context, personality, background, and health-related factors, as well as audiometric HL and experience with hearing assistance.

Leptin is Associated with the Tri-Ponderal Mass Index in Children: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Obesity is characterized by the disproportionate expansion of the fat mass and is most commonly diagnosed using the Body Mass Index (BMI) z-score or percentile in children. However, these measures associate poorly with the fat mass. This is important, as adiposity is a more robust predictor of cardiometabolic risk than BMI-based measures, but there are limited clinical measures of adiposity in children.

Does curve magnitude in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) affect frequency and quality of sport participation? A feasibility study.

Background: This pilot study explores whether large adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) curves (≥ 45°) lead to decreased frequency and quality of sport participation, lower health-related quality of life (HRQL), and more pronounced shortness of breath (SOB) as compared to smaller curvatures (< 45°).

Methods: Patients were divided into two groups based on their spinal curvature: Cobb angle < 45° (n = 31) and ≥ 45° (n = 21). We assessed feasibility outcomes including agreement to be approached, participation, recruitment rates and missing data.

High molecular weight adiponectin levels are inversely associated with adiposity in pediatric brain tumor survivors.

While children with brain tumors are surviving at record rates, survivors are at risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus; these conditions may be driven by excess body fat. Adiponectin in an adipokine that is inversely associated with the fat mass, and has been linked to cardiometabolic risk stratification in the general population. However, adiponectin's profile and determinants in SCBT have not been established.
