Adherence to the Mediterranean Diet Improves Fatty Acids Profile in Pediatric Patients with Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome.

The fatty acid profiles of patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) are different from that of healthy controls, even during remission, revealing an increase of the pro-inflammatory omega 6 series. It is still unknown whether the concomitance of nephrotic syndrome affects the potential positive effects of the Mediterranean diet on the levels of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. We performed a cross-sectional study to evaluate the association between the adherence to the Mediterranean diet and fatty acid profile in 54 children with INS.

Associations between body mass index and the surgical phenotype and location of endometriotic lesions.

Research Question: Is there a relationship between body mass index (BMI) and endometriotic lesions, specifically surgical phenotype and lesion location?

Design: An observational retrospective cohort study at the Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne, Australia, including 471 histologically confirmed endometriosis patients. Statistical analyses included multivariate logistic regression and multivariate modelling, correcting for multiple testing. Outcomes were the presence or absence of surgically classified lesion phenotypes, as per revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine criteria including superficial or deep, peritoneal or ovarian, and adhesions (Study I); and lesions at specific anatomical locations (including pelvic side wall, uterosacral ligament, pouch of Douglas, ovarian, uterovesical fold, bladder, and pararectal endometriosis) (Study II).

Mental Health, Psychological Distress, and Coping in Australian Cross-Cultural Prison Populations.

The rates of mental illness are significantly higher in prison populations compared to the general community; however, little research has examined the rates of mental illness for cross-cultural groups of prisoners in Australia. This omission is concerning given the increasingly diverse nature of the Australian prison population. To address this gap in knowledge, the present study aimed to identify rates of key mental health factors and associated psychological processes in a cohort of 191 men from culturally and linguistically diverse, Indigenous Australian and English-speaking backgrounds who were incarcerated at a maximum-security prison in Victoria, Australia.

The Acceptability, Feasibility and Potential Outcomes of an Individual Mindfulness-Based Intervention for Hearing Voices.

Background: A prominent area of advancement in the psychological treatment for people with persisting psychosis has been the application of mindfulness-based therapies. Recent literature has recommended the investigation of focused mindfulness interventions for voices (auditory hallucinations) as a specific experience. To date, only mindfulness programs in group format have been examined.

Do schizotypy dimensions reflect the symptoms of schizophrenia?

Objective: The personality characteristics and symptoms observed in schizophrenia are postulated to lie on a continuum, with non-clinical manifestations referred to as schizotypy. High schizotypy behaviours are argued to correspond with the three main clusters of symptoms in schizophrenia: positive, negative and cognitive/disorganised symptoms, yet there is limited empirical evidence to support this. This study aimed to investigate whether schizotypy dimensions significantly correlate with their respective schizophrenia symptomatology in the largest sample to date.
