Male Gender Expressivity and Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease Risks in Men.

Importance: Male gender expressivity (MGE), which reflects prevalent sociocultural pressures to convey masculinity, has been associated with health. Yet, little is known about associations of MGE with the diagnosis and treatment of modifiable cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks.

Objective: To investigate associations of MGE with modifiable CVD risk diagnoses and treatment in men.

Caring for dementia caregivers: How well does social risk screening reflect unmet needs?

Background: Unmet social and caregiving needs can make caregiving for a person with dementia more difficult. Although national policy encourages adoption of systematic screening for health-related social risks (HRSRs) in clinical settings, the accuracy of these risk-based screening tools for detecting unmet social needs is unknown.

Methods: We used baseline data from dementia caregivers (N = 343) enrolled in a randomized controlled trial evaluating CommunityRx-Dementia, a social care intervention conducted on Chicago's South Side.

Predictive enrichment for the need of renal replacement in sepsis-associated acute kidney injury: combination of furosemide stress test and urinary biomarkers TIMP-2 and IGFBP-7.

Background: In sepsis, initial resuscitation with fluids is followed by efforts to achieve a negative fluid balance. However, patients with sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) often need diuretic or renal replacement therapy (RRT). The dilemma is to predict whether early RRT might be advantageous or diuretics will suffice.

Food Insecurity and Community-Based Food Resources Among Caregivers of Hospitalized Children.

Objective: Children's hospitals are implementing interventions to connect families to community-based resources. This study describes food insecurity (FI) and food resource knowledge, need, and use among families with a hospitalized child.

Methods: Between November 2020 and June 2022, 637 caregivers of hospitalized children in an urban 42-ZIP-code area were surveyed as part of a randomized controlled trial.

Process of Engaging Community and Scientific Partners in the Development of the CIRCL-Chicago Study Protocol.

Objectives: Hypertension affects 1 in 3 adults in the United States and disproportionately affects African Americans. Kaiser Permanente demonstrated that a "bundle" of evidence-based interventions significantly increased blood pressure control rates. This paper describes a multiyear process of developing the protocol for a trial of the Kaiser bundle for implementation in under-resourced urban communities experiencing cardiovascular health disparities during the planning phase of this biphasic award (UG3/UH3).
