Microsporiodosis caused by Enterocytozoon bieneusi is one of the opportunistic infections in HIV positive patients with chronic diarrhea. The organism is difficult to diagnose because of its small size, previously the diagnosis of this infection relied on identification of the organism under electron microscope.
