The present investigation explores the role of bottom-up and top-down factors in the recognition of emotional facial expressions during binocular rivalry. We manipulated spatial frequencies (SF) and emotive features and asked subjects to indicate whether the emotional or the neutral expression was dominant during binocular rivalry. Controlling the bottom-up saliency with a computational model, physically comparable happy and fearful faces were presented dichoptically with neutral faces.

The scientific investigation of the techniques employed by the artist, such as composition of the paints, color palette, and painting style represents a fundamental pre-requisite in order to develop proper conservation and restoration strategies. In this context, the combined use of non-destructive, non-invasive in situ image and chemical analyses was here successfully employed for the investigation of the XVIII century Madonna della Lettera panel painting from the ancient Basilian abbey of Santa Maria di Bordonaro in Messina (Italy). The used techniques were visible, infrared (IR) and false-color infrared (FCIR) photography, X-ray radiography, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and Raman spectroscopy.

Aim: Distal bypass has been considered as a primary choice for the treatment of critical limb ischemia (CLI). When bypass failed with limb threatening ischemia, the amputation rate is high in patients with increased surgical risks and lack of conduit. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has been shown to be effective and safe in the setting of CLI even in patients with failed bypass graft.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the value of dual-source dual-energy CT with colored iodine overlay for detection of endoleaks after endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. We also calculated the potential dose reduction by using a dual-energy CT single-phase protocol.

Subjects And Methods: From November 2007 to November 2009, 74 patients underwent CT angiography 2-7 days after endovascular repair during single-energy unenhanced and dual-energy venous phases.
