Article Synopsis
  • International guidelines recommend targeted temperature management (TTM) to prevent brain damage in patients who experience post-cardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS), but there's no agreement on the best temperature or cooling duration.
  • The study assessed the optimal cooling parameters based on how quickly patients returned to spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiac arrest, using two temperature groups (34 °C vs. 35 °C) and different cooling durations (24-48 hours).
  • Results showed similar neurological outcomes at 30 days for patients cooled to either temperature group, indicating adjusting the target temperature and duration based on ROSC timing may benefit PCAS patients.

Unlabelled: The vascular occlusion test (VOT) with peripheral near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a non-invasive method to evaluate peripheral microcirculation. Statin therapy is widely used for patients with dyslipidaemia and contributes to reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and adverse cardiovascular events. However, it is not yet clear whether statin treatment improves peripheral microcirculation assessed by VOT with NIRS.

Introduction And Importance: Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is an oncologic emergency, with 20 % cases occurring in solid tumors. Preventive measures are necessary depending on TLS risk. We report a case of TLS development after chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer which resulted in death by intestinal perforation.

Article Synopsis
  • Sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) causes nighttime breathing issues, leading to low oxygen levels and daytime sleepiness, and is linked to serious health problems like hypertension and heart disease.
  • Approximately 50% of those with sleep-disordered breathing experience arrhythmias, particularly in severe cases where the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) is 30 or more, which can drastically increase the frequency of these heart irregularities during sleep.
  • Treatment with continuous positive airway pressure has been effective in reducing AHI and resolving severe cardiac issues in a case study of a 44-year-old patient experiencing bradyarrhythmias likely related to SAS.
