Alopecia is an undesirable side effect of cancer chemotherapy. The mitigation of alopecia is a desirable adjunct treatment for patients with cancer. FDA-cleared scalp cooling (SC) devices have been successfully used to prevent or reduce chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA).

Effect of emollients on UV filter absorbance and sunscreen efficiency.

The idea of increasing the performance of sunscreens without adding more UV-filters is very attractive. Early studies reported an influence of solvents on the absorbing properties of UV-absorbers which was shown to be connected to the solvent polarity. However, the polarity differed a lot between tested solvents and most were unsuitable UV-filter solubilizers.

Liquid-crystalline membrane permeation ability for selected nitro hair dyes.

Aim: A comparison of permeation ability of selected semi-permanent hair dyes and an attempt to estimate the influence of fundamental physicochemical parameters on dyes' epidermal penetration rate.

Methods: Dyes' permeation ability through liposome membrane (as a model of stratum corneum) with side-by-side cells was assessed.

Results: It has been shown that the chosen dyes are capable of permeating the membrane.

Since hepatic arteries are free of atherosclerosis any possible wall structure change may be attributed to age. We determined the media of hepatic and coronary arteries in view of this assumption. We measured its thickness and myocytic density (per 1 mm2 of cross-section) from specimens collected from autopsied subjects, aged up to 90 years.
