Hepatectomy is the curative treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with targeted therapy used when resection is difficult. In this rare case, the tumor shrank with targeted therapy, enabling radical treatment through conversion surgery. The patient, a man in his 70s, developed an 11.

Background: Glioblastoma is the most aggressive adult primary brain cancer, characterized by significant heterogeneity, posing challenges for patient management, treatment planning, and clinical trial stratification.

Methods: We developed a highly reproducible, personalized prognostication and clinical subgrouping system using machine learning (ML) on routine clinical data, MRI, and molecular measures from 2,838 demographically diverse patients across 22 institutions and 3 continents. Patients were stratified into favorable, intermediate, and poor prognostic subgroups (I, II, III) using Kaplan-Meier analysis (Cox proportional model and hazard ratios [HR]).

Article Synopsis
  • The EF-14 clinical trial confirmed the safety and efficacy of tumor-treating fields (TTFields) in glioblastoma, prompting this study to assess its status among Japanese patients meeting the same criteria.
  • A multicenter retrospective analysis was conducted with data from 607 patients, ultimately focusing on 537, where 39% received TTField treatment, highlighting factors like younger age and having a caregiver as key determinants for usage.
  • Results showed that despite high compliance rates (over 75%) and a median usage duration of 11 months, TTFields did not significantly impact progression-free survival or overall survival in patients with glioblastoma.

Alexander disease (AxD) is an intractable neurodegenerative disease caused by mutations in (), which is predominantly expressed in astrocytes. Thus, AxD is a primary astrocyte disease. However, it remains unclear how mutations affect astrocytes and cause AxD pathology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates periventricular anastomosis (PA) aneurysms in Moyamoya disease (MMD), revealing that these aneurysms are rare but can significantly impact patient outcomes.* -
  • Results show that having a PA aneurysm correlates with higher initial disability scores (mRS) and a higher likelihood of future hemorrhagic strokes, indicating it as a risk factor for adverse events.* -
  • Advanced analysis techniques, like machine learning and principal component analysis, underscore the unique characteristics of hemorrhagic-onset aneurysms, suggesting that greater PA development increases the risk of aneurysm presence and complications.*
