Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate cases of local anaesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) specifically in adult urological patients by reviewing literature from various medical databases over several decades.
  • Out of 157 publications screened, only six case reports were eligible, documenting instances where patients experienced LAST after procedures like penile dorsal nerve blocks and circumcision, with most patients recovering without long-term issues.
  • The findings suggest that while LAST is rare in adult urology, urologists should recognize its symptoms and manage it effectively while following guidelines on safe dosing of local anaesthetics to minimize the risk.

Methods: We reviewed 899 thyroid ultrasound reports of patients who received fine-needle aspiration biopsy and were diagnosed with Bethesda III or IV nodules or thyroid cancer.
