Background: Triple artemisinin-based combination therapies (TACTs) can delay the spread of antimalarial drug resistance. Artesunate-amodiaquine is widely used for uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Introduction: Seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) with Sulfadoxine pyrimethamine plus amodiaquine (SP + AQ) consist of a monthly administration of therapeutic dose to children under five years of age during the high risk of malaria in area where malaria is highly seasonal. According to SMC recommendation, both non-infected and asymptomatic infected children will receive similar treatment. The gap in our knowledge is how the effect of asymptomatic infection on the efficacy of SMC in preventing clinical malaria over a four-week period.
