Article Synopsis
  • Cryptococcus neoformans causes Cryptococcosis, a serious infection mostly affecting AIDS patients, with sonicated proteins showing potential antigenic properties.
  • The study involves preparing antigens from cryptococcal culture and using ELISA to identify antibodies in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from cryptococcal meningitis cases.
  • Results suggest that antibody detection is valuable for early diagnosis, particularly when combined with traditional methods like India ink staining, offering high sensitivity (83%) and specificity (100%) for diagnosing cryptococcal infections.
