Introduction: The progression of diabetes status in post-stroke patients remains under-investigated, particularly regarding new treatments for type II diabetes mellitus (DM II), like glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-1-RA) and sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, which have not been studied in the post-stroke setting.

Patients And Methods: Eight hundred eighty-four consecutive ischemic stroke patients recruited to our prospective STROKE-CARD Registry were assessed concerning their glycemic status at baseline (normoglycemia, prediabetes, DM II) and change over time within 1 year follow-up. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with transitioning from normoglycemia to prediabetes or DM II.

Aims: This study assessed the achievement rates of metabolic risk factor targets and their association with clinical characteristics and comorbidities among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) treated in the primary care in Austria.

Materials And Methods: A countrywide cross-sectional study, the AUSTRO-PROFIT, was conducted in Austria from 2021 to 2023 on 635 individuals with T2D. Metabolic risk factor targets were defined as the percentage of people achieving low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) <70 mg/dL (or < 55 mg/dL if cardiovascular or microvascular disease was present), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) <7% (53 mmol/mol) and blood pressure < 140/90 mmHg.

Since its inception nearly a half century ago, CHARMM has been playing a central role in computational biochemistry and biophysics. Commensurate with the developments in experimental research and advances in computer hardware, the range of methods and applicability of CHARMM have also grown. This review summarizes major developments that occurred after 2009 when the last review of CHARMM was published.

The dynamic behavior of biological materials is central to their functionality, suggesting that interfacial dynamics could also mediate the activity of chemical events at the surfaces of synthetic materials. Here, we investigate the influence of surface flexibility and hydration on heavy metal remediation by nanostructures self-assembled from small molecules that are decorated with surface-bound chelators in water. We find that incorporating short oligo(ethylene glycol) spacers between the surface and interior domain of self-assembled nanostructures can drastically increase the conformational mobility of surface-bound lead-chelating moieties and promote interaction with surrounding water.

Background: To prospectively determine the influence of variations of surgical radicality and surgical quality on long-term outcome in patients with stage I-III colon cancer.

Methods: From a prospective multicenter cohort study including 1040 patients undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer from 09/2001 to 06/2005 in nine Swiss and one German hospital, 423 patients with stage I-III colon cancer were selected and analyzed. Surgeons and pathologists filled in standardized forms prospectively assessing items of oncosurgical radicality and quality.
