Effects of aldose reductase inhibitor and vitamin B12 on myocardial uptake of iodine-123 metaiodobenzylguanidine in patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

This study was undertaken to examine the effects of aldose reductase inhibitor (ARI) and vitamin B12 (VB12) on myocardial uptake of iodine-123 metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) in patients with diabetic autonomic disorder. Myocardial scintigraphy using 123I-MIBG was performed on 20 healthy volunteers (controls) and 56 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), in order to obtain the heart/mediastinum ratio in the initial (HMi) and the delayed images (HMd), and the washout rate (%WR). Thirty-four of the 56 NIDDM patients could be diagnosed as having diabetic autonomic disorder by evaluating their scintigraphic findings in comparison with the controls.

Clinical significance of thallium-201 and gallium-67 scintigraphy in pulmonary tuberculosis.

One hundred and thirty-nine patients with pulmonary tuberculosis were evaluated by means of gallium-67 and thallium-201 scintigraphy. The disease was clinically active in 83 and inactive in 56. The uptake ratio between the lesion and the contralateral normal lung field was calculated.

[Eosinophil kinetics].

The in vivo kinetics of autologous 111In-oxine labeled eosinophils were studied in 3 patients with reactive eosinophilia. Organ distribution and life span of 111In-oxine labeled eosinophils were evaluated. The disappearance curve of the labeled eosinophils showed two exponential components in all cases.

[Prevalence and pathogenesis of iron deficiency in Japanese women (1981-1991)].

Iron deficiency anemia is the most prevalent among form of anemia in the world. In Japan, there is no overall report concerning prevalence and pathogenesis of iron deficiency. We estimated the prevalence of iron deficiency from the results of a survey of 3,015 Japanese women.
