Article Synopsis
  • Fluoroscopic examinations, such as ERCP and PTC, are essential for diagnosing hepatobiliary diseases but expose patients to significant radiation, prompting a need to better assess radiation doses to critical organs.
  • The study used an Alderson RANDO phantom and Thermoluminescent Dosemeters to measure actual radiation exposure during these procedures, finding that PTC generally yields higher doses, particularly to the thyroid and spleen.
  • Results highlight the necessity of evaluating the risks versus benefits of these procedures due to the notable radiation exposure, suggesting a preference for ERCP when minimizing radiation is necessary, and advocating for continued improvements in medical imaging to enhance patient safety.

Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a multifaceted autoimmune disorder affecting the postsynaptic neuromuscular junction. In this study, we examined CD4 and CD8 T lymphocyte levels and ratios within peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in MG patients. Additionally, we assessed lymphocytes for the expression of CD71, which functions as a transferrin receptor mediating the uptake of iron into the cells.

Objective: Today, respiratory movement can be monitored and recorded with different methods during a simulation on a four-dimensional (4D) computed tomography (CT) device to be used in radiotherapy planning. A synchronized respiratory monitoring system (RPM) with an externally equipped device is one of these methods. Another method is to create 4D images of the patient's breathing phases without the need for extra equipment, with an anatomy-based software program integrated into the CT device.

Background: The rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria necessitates the discovery of new, safe, and bioactive antimicrobial compounds. The antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of microalgae makes them a potential candidate for developing natural antibiotics to limit microbial infection in various fields.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the antibacterial effect of the methanolic extract of Schizochytrium sp.

The growing challenge of antibiotic resistance necessitates novel approaches for combating bacterial infections. This study explores the distinctive synergy between chlorhexidine, an antiseptic and disinfectant agent, and azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic, in their impact on bacterial growth and virulence factors using Escherichia coli strain Crooks (ATCC 8739) as a model. Our findings reveal that the chlorhexidine and azithromycin combination demonstrates enhanced anti-bacterial effects compared to individual treatments.
