Clinical impact of healthcare-associated infections in Brazilian ICUs: a multicenter prospective cohort.

Background: Limited data is available to evaluate the burden of device associated healthcare infections (HAI) [central line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), and ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP)] in low and-middle-income countries. Our aim is to investigate the population attributable mortality fraction and the absolute mortality difference of HAI in a broad population of critically ill patients from Brazil.

Methods: Multicenter cohort study from September 2019 to December 2023 with prospective individual patient data collection.

Association between maternal usage of volatile organic compounds and West syndrome, the Japan Environment and Children's study.

Multiple etiologies of West syndrome have been reported; however, there are cases of unknown etiologies. Exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) increases the risk of epilepsy; however, their effects on children remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate the association between maternal occupational usage of VOCs and West syndrome development in children.

Substance P- and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1-derived Tetrapeptides for Neurotrophic Keratopathy Related to Leprosy: A Clinical Trial.

Purpose: Neurotrophic keratopathy is part of the leprosy sequelae and causes progressive deterioration of visual acuity. Although leprosy is bacteriologically curable, there is currently no efficient treatment. Eye drops containing tetrapeptides, phenylalanine-glycine-leucine-methionine-amide (FGLM-NH) and serine-serine-serine-arginine (SSSR), derived from substance P and insulin-like growth factor 1, are clinically efficacious in the treatment of corneal epithelial disorders caused by neurotrophic keratopathy.

Sporadic vs. basal cell nevus syndrome associated odontogenic keratocysts: focus on CT and MRI including DWI.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate odontogenic keratocysts associated with basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS) using computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resornance imaging (MRI) including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and compare them with sporadic cases.

Materials And Methods: This study investigated 17 outpatients who underwent panoramic radiography, CT, and MRI between August 2012 and January 2021. Five of these patients had BCNS had 16 odontogenic keratocysts, for which the authors recorded detailed findings.
