Betatrophin, a liver hormone, regulates glucose and lipid metabolism. We investigated the betatrophin levels in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and searched for any relationship with histological severity and metabolic parameters. Fifty males with NAFLD [Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) (n = 32); non-NASH (n = 18)] and 30 healthy controls were included.

Objective: To evaluate the association of folate and vitamin B12 levels in patients with conversion disorder, and to illuminate the aetiology of conversion disorder by examining depression and somatoform dissociation.

Methods: The case-control study was conducted from March 2014 to May 2015 at the Medical Centre of Yuzuncu Yil University, Van, Turkey, and comprised patients diagnosed with conversion disorder and healthy controls. Blood samples were taken from both groups for vitamin B12 and folate levels.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) in children with beta-thalassemia major, a condition linked to heart issues.
  • The researchers compared 31 beta-thalassemia major children to 36 healthy controls, measuring several cardiovascular-related markers.
  • Results showed significantly higher levels of ADMA and other markers in the beta-thalassemia group, suggesting that elevated ADMA could indicate early endothelial dysfunction and risk of atherosclerosis in these patients.

Introduction: Patients with hypogonadism are at increased risk of cardiac and metabolic diseases and osteoporosis. Vitamin D and Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) play role in the regulation of bone mineral metabolism and endothelial functions. Low vitamin D levels are reported in hypogonadism, while there is no data about the effect of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).

Background: Cardiometabolic risk is high in patients with hypogonadism. Visceral adiposity index (VAI) and triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio are the practical markers of atherosclerosis and insulin resistance and independent predictors of cardiaovascular risk. To date, no study has evaluated VAI levels and TG/HDL-C ratio in hypogonadism.
