Purpose Of Review: Tattoos and medallions are examples of nonstandard do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders that some people use to convey end-of-life wishes. These DNR orders are neither universally accepted nor understood for reasons discussed within this manuscript.

Recent Findings: Studies show both providers and patients confuse the meaning and implication of DNR orders.

Background: Crashes are a small but regular feature of elite motorcycle racing. These crashes provide a novel opportunity to benchmark and analyze motorcycle crash mechanics, crash types, and associated injuries at high speeds in a cohort of riders who are well protected and in a controlled environment.

Purpose: The purpose was to benchmark the prevalence of injuries, categorize crash subtypes, and determine associated injury patterns.

Introduction: Formula One returned to the United States on November 16-18, 2012, with the inaugural United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. Medical preparedness for motorsports events represents a unique challenge due to the potential for a high number of spectators seeking medical attention, and the possibility for a mass-casualty situation. Adequate preparation requires close collaboration across public safety agencies and hospital networks to minimize impact on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources.

Background: Neuromonitoring with microdialysis has the potential for early detection of metabolic derangements associated with TBI.

Methods: 1,260 microdialysis samples from 12 TBI patients were analyzed for glucose, -lactate, pyruvate, lactate/pyruvate ratio (LPR), and lactate/glucose ratio (LGR). Analytes were correlated with the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) before surgery and with the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) at the time of discharge.

Perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage (pSAH) has been described as a distinct form of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) associated with good outcomes. We report a 48-year-old female who developed cerebral infarction due to severe diffuse vasospasm following pSAH. The patient presented with non-aneurysmal pSAH and was discharged home on day 5.
