Thevinols and their 3-O-demethylated relatives, orvinols, are derivatives of the Diels-Alder adduct of natural alkaloid thebaine with methyl vinyl ketone. Taken together, thevinols and orvinols constitute an important family of opioid receptor (OR) ligands playing an important role in both the OR mediated antinociception and OR antagonism. Herein, we disclose for the first time the antagonist activity of the N-allyl substituted orvinol derivative fluorinated within the pharmacophore associated with C(20) and its surrounding.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the presence of anti-podocyte antibodies, specifically targeting synaptopodin and annexin 1, in patients with nephrotic syndrome to evaluate their role in diagnosing primary podocytopathies like Minimal Change Disease (MCD) and Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).
  • A total of 72 nephrotic syndrome patients were analyzed, alongside 21 healthy individuals, finding higher antibody levels in MCD and FSGS patients compared to the others, indicating their potential use in diagnosis.
  • The combined analysis of both antibody types showed significant diagnostic accuracy (sensitivity of 80.9% and specificity of 81.3%), although these antibody levels did not predict how well patients

Background: α-Klotho deficiency may increase cardiovascular risks and worsen survival. We evaluated the association of α-Klotho with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in pre-dialysis chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients.

Methods: In this prospective study, 75 non-diabetic CKD stage 3b-4 patients were followed-up for a median of 8 years.

Aim: To determine biomarkers of anemia of chronic disease (ACD) in patients with glomerulonephritis (GN) in the early stages of CKD, to assess their role as risk factors for cardiovascular complications (CVС).

Materials And Methods: Seventy nine patients with GN were studied, among them: 40 with primary сhronic GN (CGN), 39 with secondary forms:19 - GN with ANCA-associated systemic vasculitis, 20 - GN with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) at early (all I-II) CKD stages. In all patients, the level of serum C-reactive protein (CRP), hepcidin, interferon γ, and the circulating form of protein Klotho (s-Klotho) were determined.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to investigate the relationship between clinical and morphological features of kidney issues in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
  • A total of 62 patients with lupus nephritis (LN) were examined, revealing that most were female and had a median age of SLE onset around 23 years; various extrarenal symptoms were noted alongside kidney involvement.
  • The findings showed significant variation in LN presentations, emphasizing the necessity of kidney biopsies for accurate classification, as similar symptoms like proteinuria were observed across different LN classes.
