Topical review: family psychosocial risk screening and social determinants of health assessment.

Objective: Social-ecological factors are highly congruent with social determinants of health (SDOH): Economic Stability; Educational Access/Quality; Healthcare Access/Quality; Neighborhood/Built Environment; and Social/Community Context. In this topical review, the correspondence of social-ecological theory with SDOH and assessment approaches is reviewed. The Psychosocial Assessment Tool (PAT) is used to show how existing tools may facilitate SDOH screening.

model of bacterial biofilm mineralization in complex humid environments: a proof of concept study.

Background: Bacteria in physiological environments can generate mineralizing biofilms, which are associated with diseases like periodontitis or kidney stones. Modelling complex environments presents a challenge for the study of mineralization in biofilms. Here, we developed an experimental setup which could be applied to study the fundamental principles behind biofilm mineralization on rigid substrates, using a model organism and in a tailored bioreactor that mimics a humid environment.

Spleno-Mesenteric Venous Blood Flow Dynamics in Adult Patients with Chronic Portal Vein Thrombosis Analyzed by Sequential CT-Spleno- and Mesenterico-Portography.

Background: Portal vein thrombosis (PVT) leads to portal hypertension (PH) with its sequelae. Computed tomography spleno-mesenterico-portography (CT-SMPG) combines sequential CT spleno-portography and CT mesenterico-portography. CT-SMPG comprehensively illustrates the venous hemodynamic changes due to PH.

Muscle-specific neuromuscular responses during running with blood flow restriction.

The purpose of this investigation was to examine muscle excitation at maximal running capacity without blood flow restriction (BFR) relative to submaximal running bouts with BFR. Fourteen college-aged males randomly completed four, three-minute running bouts at 70, 80, and 90% of peak speed with BFR (70%, 80%, and 90%) and without BFR at 100% of their peak speed (100%). The surface electromyographic amplitudes of the vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, and vastus medialis muscles were assessed.
